Description

This lot comprises approximately 30-35 assorted metallic coins, primarily from India, spanning various periods and denominations. The majority are modern Indian coinage, mostly dating from the late 20th to early 21st centuries (e.g., 1995, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2002), featuring denominations such as 1 Rupee, 2 Rupees, 5 Rupees, 25 Paisa, and 50 Paisa. These typically display the Ashoka Lion Capital emblem on one side and the numerical denomination with a date and various motifs (e.g., grain stalks, hands holding a globe) on the reverse, with text in both English (“INDIA, ” “RUPEE, ” “PAISA”) and Hindi (“भारत, ” “रुपये, ” “पैसे”). A distinctive older, scalloped coin dated 1944 bears “1 ANNA” in English and multiple Indian scripts including Hindi (“एक आना”) and Urdu (“یک آنہ”) on one side, and “GEORGE VI KING EMPEROR” with a crowned bust on the other, indicating a British India provenance.
