Description
A pair of framed reproductions on paper, possibly hand-tinted, depicting elaborate historical decorative arts. The first print illustrates Benvenuto Cellini’s Mannerist ‘Saliera’ (1540-1543), crafted from gold, enamel, and ebony. The print includes visible Italian text: “Saliera. Benvenuto Cellini. Scultore e Orafo Fiorentino, 1540-1543. Modellato in oro, smalto e ebano. Museo di Vienna.” The second depicts an Empire-style ‘Ménagère’ by Martin-Guillaume Biennais for Napoleon I (1805), made of gilded silver and lapis lazuli. The print includes accompanying French text: “Ménagère. Ménagère en argent doré et lapis lazuli. Exécutée par Martin-Guillaume Biennais pour la table de Napoléon Ier en 1805. Collection privée, Paris.” Each print is matted in white and presented under glass within a modern, molded gold-tone frame.
