Luton Hoo - Bedrooms
Lot 237:
Description
This ensemble features a large window dressed with opulent, floor-length curtains in a gold-toned brocade fabric, displaying an all-over foliate pattern. The draperies are styled with elaborate swags, jabots, and decorative tassel tie-backs. The window is flanked by ornate, cream-painted and gilded architectural moldings and surmounted by a painted frieze with classical motifs, indicative of a Neoclassical or Rococo Revival style, likely dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. A small circular table positioned in front of the window holds a blue-and-white porcelain plant pot, possibly East Asian in style, which bears what appears to be a partial Chinese dynasty reign mark, with visible characters suggesting “大明” (Dà Míng – Great Ming) or “大清” (Dà Qīng – Great Qing) followed by “年製” (nián zhì – made in the year of).
Condition report:
The overall condition appears very good. The textiles hang elegantly with minimal signs of wear. The architectural elements show only minor surface wear and rubbing to the gilding, consistent with age. The porcelain pot is intact with no visible chips, cracks, or repairs.
