Description
A pair of vintage wooden-headed marionettes manufactured by Pelham Puppets of Marlborough, Wiltshire, England. These examples are from the Standard range, featuring articulated wooden limbs beneath fabric clothing, with painted wooden heads, hands, and feet. Each is operated by black strings attached to a wooden cross-bar controller, which is stamped PELHAM PUPPET. The first puppet is a blonde female character in Tyrolean-style dress, comprising a yellow long-sleeved blouse, green bodice, and red and white gingham skirt with green-painted wooden shoes. The second puppet is a female character with brown hair wearing a green headpiece, yellow blouse, and a white patterned skirt with green-painted wooden shoes. Both puppets are housed in their original brown corrugated cardboard boxes with applied blue, white, and red paper labels. The labels feature the Pelham Puppets Ltd. name in red cursive script, the Pegasus winged horse trademark logo, and the Marlborough location. One box retains its original side marking for STANDARD PUPPET.
