Description
George III copper penny, Great Britain, dated 1797. The obverse features the George III laureate portrait with an incuse legend on a wide, raised rim. The reverse features the seated Britannia design with an incuse legend and the date 1797 on the rim. This issue was the first British copper penny struck by steam power at the Soho Mint in Birmingham.
