Description

This collection of magical apparatus and historical ephemera features a walnut-finish wooden award plaque from the Society of American Magicians National Council. The plaque is mounted with a metal SAM emblem and engraved plates recognizing John Salisse, M.I.M.C. for his unstinting service to magic on both sides of the Atlantic. The lot includes a stylized duck puppet prop with a painted orange beak and purple fabric shirt, accompanied by a white-painted wooden crate stenciled with the text WITH CARE Live Bird in red and black. The crate contains a canvas liner and a single ceramic egg. Ephemera includes a handwritten letter on Ron Bishop stationery dated July 7, 1986, addressed to John Salisse regarding a royal honor. Also present are issues of The Magic Castle Newsletter from the Academy of Magical Arts dated 2008, a copy of The Magic Circle Lecture notes, and German-language programs including The magic hands and Seminare 1996. Additional items include several decks of playing cards such as Waddingtons Number 1 and Club de Luxe, a square ceramic dish with blue astrological symbols, and a set of coasters depicting various magic performances.

Condition report:

The items exhibit signs of age and professional use. The wooden crate and duck puppet show significant paint loss, scuffing, and surface wear. The canvas liner in the crate shows discoloration and fraying. Paper ephemera and programs show varying degrees of creasing, handling wear, minor tears, and age-related toning. Playing card boxes show edge wear and some structural tears. The award plaque remains in generally good condition with minor surface scratches to the wood and metal plates.
