Description
This is a mid-20th-century wall-mounted dial clock produced for the British General Post Office (GPO). The timepiece is housed in a mahogany-stained wooden case featuring a circular dial surround and a squared-off back box. A hinged access door is located on the side of the case, and a brass wall-mounting bracket is fixed to the reverse. The circular off-white painted dial features black Roman numeral hour markers and an outer minute track. The dial is marked with a crown symbol above the centre arbor and the letters G.P.O. below, with the number 14 printed to the right. The clock features black-finished steel hands, including a spade-shaped hour hand. Internally, the clock contains a mechanical pendulum movement, with the pendulum bob visible through the side hatch. The number 14 is handwritten in black inside the case. The reverse of the wooden case is incised with the characters 33/39 over 217.
