Description

A British mechanical mantel clock of Napoleon hat or tambour design, dating from the mid-20th century. The wooden case features a dark-stained front and base contrasted by lighter-grained veneer on the curved side panels. It sits on a stepped base decorated with incised linear patterns. The silvered dial is protected by a chrome-plated bezel with a convex glass door, featuring black Arabic numerals and spade-style hands. Two winding holes are present on the dial, indicating a striking movement. The interior reveals a mechanical eight-day movement with a brass backplate stamped with the Perivale Clock Manufacturing Co. mark within an oval. The movement strikes on a five-rod gong assembly. A metallic label fixed to the interior of the rear door displays the LMS logo for the London, Midland and Scottish Railway, alongside the text British Made Case, Fitted With, and British Made Gong, indicating this piece was likely produced for official railway service use.
