Description
This lot comprises eight vintage matchboxes, crafted from cardboard with various printed paper labels or sleeves. The designs are diverse, featuring scenic views of Austrian and Bavarian landmarks such as Salzburg Fortress, Innsbruck, and Nymphenburg Palace. Other designs include historical figures, specifically an 1815 Old Regiment of Foot Officer, a black and white image of a gathering from “Römerhof, ” and stylized promotional graphics from entities like “IFA” and “Allianz.” Visible text indicates themes such as “Austrian Matches” and “Bavarian Castles No. 1.” Some boxes are marked “Made in GT. Britain” or “Made in Germany.” German phrases present include “auch in Österreich” (also in Austria), “hoffentlich ALLIANZ versichert” (hopefully Allianz insured), and “auch auf Reisen!” (also when travelling!). Most boxes indicate an “AV. CONT.” (Average Content) of 30 or 40 matches, and one is marked “4 p, ” suggesting a pre-decimal currency period.
