Lot 394:
Description
This collection of six English stoneware plates is produced by Wedgwood in pale blue jasperware. Each circular plate is decorated with white bas-relief application, featuring a central architectural subject framed by a border of oak leaves and acorns. The subjects include Windsor Castle for 1969, Magdalen College Oxford for 1982, All Souls London for 1983, Constitution Hill for 1984, and The Royal Mews for 1986. A sixth plate, corresponding to the 1985 Tate Gallery edition, is contained within its packaging. The face of each plate is relief-inscribed with the word CHRISTMAS and the corresponding year, with identifying scrolls positioned below the central motifs. The items are accompanied by their original white polystyrene inner packaging and five decorative cardboard outer boxes. These boxes are printed with the words Christmas Plate in a script font and the name WEDGWOOD in red capital letters. Two original printed pamphlets titled Wedgwood ANNUAL EDITIONS for the years 1984-1985 and 1986-1987 are included.
