Description

This lot comprises two English earthenware items produced by Portmeirion. The first is a tall lidded coffee pot in the Pomona pattern, featuring a white ground decorated with transfer-printed fruit and blossoms. The main body displays the Royal George Peach (Prunus Persica) with ripening fruit and green leaves, while the lid is adorned with pink floral sprigs and a molded flower finial. The base of the coffee pot carries a green printed oval mark reading PORTMEIRION POTTERY Stoke on Trent MADE IN ENGLAND, accompanied by a small green stamped number 87.

The second item is a small cylindrical lidded canister from the Botanic Garden series, designed by Susan Williams-Ellis. The lid depicts a yellow citrus fruit with a brown butterfly, and the side shows a floral arrangement of Heartsease (Viola Tricolor) with associated butterflies. The underside of the jar features a complex circular green transfer-printed backstamp with floral borders, containing the text THE BOTANIC GARDEN circa 1818 PORTMEIRION MADE IN BRITAIN SUSAN WILLIAMS-ELLIS, with 1972 inside a small oval and a small black number 5.
