Description
A mid-19th-century religious volume titled The Devotional Family Bible by the Reverend Alexander Fletcher, D.D. This book is Volume I of a multi-volume set, containing the biblical books from Genesis to Job. The title page identifies the publisher as George Virtue of London and states the work contains practical and experimental reflections on each verse, rich marginal references, and numerous engravings. The volume is bound in dark full leather with ornate gilt and blind-stamped decorative borders to the boards and all edges of the text block are gilt. The spine features five raised bands with decorative gilt tooling and is lettered HOLY BIBLE and VOL. I. GEN. JOB. A handwritten presentation inscription in ink on the front flyleaf is dated 11 May 1849 and reads Benjamin Salmon 11 May 1849. A token of regard from his Son Thomas.
