November Toys & Vintage Auction
Lot 482:
Description
A hand-carved walking stick constructed from a dense, dark-grained hardwood. The stick is carved from a single piece of wood, featuring a handle in a modified crook form with a small spur-like projection at the front. The shaft is intricately decorated with alternating sections of turned baluster shapes and relief-carved stylised human figures. There are two distinct figurative sections along the length of the shaft, each depicting stylised human heads with textured hair and carved facial features. Throughout the turned sections, the wood is inlaid with small circular white accents, likely bone, arranged in vertical groups of three. The bottom of the stick is fitted with a functional black rubber ferrule. No maker’s marks, signatures, or hallmarks are visible on the item.
