Lot 617:
A Collection of Hand Carved Hardwood Elephant Figurines and Wall Plaque
Description
A collection of hardwood elephant figures featuring varied poses and designs. The group includes two standing figures with raised trunks and one standing figure with a curved trunk, all rendered in a stylized, angular folk art manner. The collection also features a smaller figurine permanently mounted to a rectangular wooden plinth and a wall-hanging plaque depicting an elephant’s head in relief on an oval wooden shield. The plaque is detailed with two light-coloured tusks, possibly composed of bone or a similar natural material. Each piece is crafted from hardwood with a warm reddish-brown stain and a polished finish. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the surfaces of the items.
