Description
A single Great Britain 1794 Portsea Halfpenny Conder Token. The obverse features a large sailing ship on waves, with a wreath-like design below. The curved legend ‚PAYABLE‘ is inscribed above. The reverse displays a central shield divided into three sections, containing stylized fish or sea creatures. This shield is surmounted by a hand holding a balance scale. The legend ‚PORTSEA HALF PENNY 1794‘ encircles this side. This token is characteristic of the 18th-century provincial token coinage, commonly known as Conder Tokens, issued by various towns and merchants in Great Britain to address a shortage of official coinage. The ‚PAYABLE‘ inscription indicates its use as a form of currency.
