Luton Hoo - Bedrooms
Lot 1169:
Description
A pair of framed prints on paper, each matted with wide white borders and housed in matching gilded, ornate wooden frames under glass. One print illustrates a 17th-century German silver-gilt mechanical automaton owl, rendered in muted brown and cream tones. Accompanying text identifies the original object as constructed by Johann Joachim Wäber and Humphrey Potter, currently located in Munich’s Schatzkammer. The second print depicts a German silver-gilt and shell Nautilus cup, dated to the 1620s by Caspar Spiller, featuring a standing figure with a whip, a lion, and an ornate base. Its provenance is noted to include the Prince of Lichtenstein and a presentation by Queen Victoria to the British Museum in 1850.
