Luton Hoo - Bedrooms
Lot 2131:
Description
An architectural rendering by Arthur Davis & Charles Mewes, depicting an elevation drawing for ‚The Ballroom, Luton Hoo.‘ Executed in ink and wash on paper, the design features classical architectural elements such as paneled walls, pilasters, friezes, and decorative window surrounds, consistent with a Beaux-Arts or Neoclassical revival style. The inscription at the bottom identifies it as „Designed by Arthur Davis & Charles Mewes,“ pointing to a late 19th to early 20th-century origin. The work is presented in an ornate, heavily gilded wooden frame with classical motifs, under glass.
Condition report:
The artwork appears well-preserved within its frame. The frame exhibits minor age-appropriate wear and light tarnishing to the gilding, particularly on raised details and corners, but no significant damage.
