Description
The collection consists of seven items of mid-20th century British horticultural printed matter, dating explicitly to 1940 and the surrounding period. The core of the collection comprises parts of the periodical The Popular Encyclopedia of Gardening, noted as being „Complete in 52 Weekly Parts Making One Volume.“ Visible issues include No. 21 and No. 52, each marked with a price of „6d.“ These periodicals feature heavy pink and red floral cover designs. Also included is the 1940 Seed Catalogue for Brown & Sons Seeds Ltd., located at 30 & 31 Bridge Street, Bristol. The collection is accompanied by a substantial green fabric-covered binder, designed for the periodicals, and a detached die-cut label promoting the „Brampton’s Patent Instantaneous Binder“ (Series Pioneer). An additional loose advertisement sheet detailing how to use the self-binder is present. Materials are primarily paper, card, and cloth.
