Description
A vintage portable multi-range analogue multimeter, manufactured for the British General Post Office (G.P.O.). The instrument is housed in a black plastic or bakelite casing featuring a large multi-scale dial protected by a clear window. The control interface includes a central multi-position rotary range selector, a sliding toggle switch for alternating between AC.V. and D.C./Ohm modes, and a knurled adjustment knob for zeroing the resistance scale. The dial face is inscribed with the G.P.O. logo, technical specifications including 20,000 opv D.C. and 1,000 opv A.C., and the serial number No. S170-041. The meter is contained within its original fitted tan leather carrying case, which is stamped on the front with METER MULTI-RANGE No. 12A/1. The case is designed with a top-opening flap, an internal secondary flap for control access, and an adjustable leather shoulder strap. This type of instrument was standard issue for G.P.O. telecommunications engineers for field testing and maintenance during the mid-20th century.
