Description
This oval high-relief plaque, crafted from a composition material or papier-mache, illustrates the religious scene of the Marriage of the Virgin. The central composition depicts Mary and Joseph joined before a high priest within an architectural temple interior. The scene is further embellished with cherubs in the upper left and a descending dove within a radiant sunburst, symbolising the Holy Spirit. A scroll at the lower right of the relief is inscribed with the word LONDON. The relief is housed in an integral or closely fitted black-lacquered oval frame.
