Lot 430:
German Porcelain Oval Serving Platter in the Blue Onion Pattern
Description
A large German porcelain oval serving platter featuring a scalloped and molded rim. The piece is decorated in the traditional Blue Onion pattern, an underglaze cobalt blue Chinoiserie design depicting stylized pomegranates, peaches, and floral motifs centered around a winding stem with bamboo and peonies. The rim is finished with a repeating border of scrolling foliate and floral elements. The underside of the base features a blue printed oval mark containing the word MEISSEN with a small star symbol below it, alongside a separate blue script mark reading Made in Germany. An unglazed, crescent-shaped kiln scar or spur mark is present on the base as a result of the manufacturing process.
