Lot 440:
A Set of Six Polychrome Ceramic Fish Plates and Platter
Description
A set of six glazed ceramic items featuring freshwater fish motifs, consisting of one large oval serving platter and five circular plates. Each piece is decorated with a central transfer-printed polychrome illustration of a specific fish species in a naturalistic, botanical style. The largest piece, the oval platter, depicts a Northern Pike amongst reeds with snail shells and a smaller fish. The circular plates feature other freshwater species including a Rainbow Trout, a Perch, and a Carp, all set within an aquatic environment of water plants and shells. The designs are rendered in a realistic colour palette on a white ground. The undersides of the items are not visible in the provided images; therefore, no maker’s marks, signatures, or country-of-origin stamps can be reported. The attribution to a specific manufacturer cannot be confirmed without visible backstamps.
