Lot 444:
A Seven Piece Collection of Jasperware Decorative Items
Description
A seven piece assortment of jasperware stoneware items, each featuring a characteristic matte biscuit finish with applied white relief stoneware decoration in the Neoclassical style. The group includes a sage green miniature display plate featuring a central figural group within a foliate border. Two dark blue miniature display plates are decorated with silhouettes of a male and female figure in profile, possibly historical figures, enclosed by leaf and berry borders. The collection also includes four items in pale blue: a teacup and matching saucer each featuring a grapevine border, a rectangular trinket box with a lidded design showing classical figures and floral motifs, and a hand bell decorated with classical figures and a star border at the rim. The decoration technique throughout is sprigged, with white stoneware reliefs applied to the coloured stoneware bodies. While the specific colour palette and Neoclassical motifs are characteristic of a notable English pottery manufacturer, no maker’s name or mark is readable in the provided images.
