Lot 450:
Description
A collection of decorative ceramic items comprising various forms and glazes. The group includes an earthenware miniature spirit barrel of horizontally banded form with two blue stripes. The front features a transfer-printed scrolling cartouche with the word GIN printed in black capital letters. It is fitted with a cream-coloured stopper and a metal dispensing tap.
A twin-compartment rectangular ceramic tray with a raised handle at each end is decorated with transfer-printed fruit motifs: two plums with foliage in the upper section and two cherries or apples with foliage in the lower section. Resting on this tray are a pitcher with a mottled blue sponged ground featuring a hand-painted peach or nectarine, and a globular cream-glazed sugar bowl with a pale green lid.
A porcelain pitcher of lobed form features a shaped rim, a scrolling handle, and blue transfer-printed floral and foliate decoration accented with gilded highlights. The collection is completed by five small dishes of various forms, including a heart-shaped reticulated basket-weave dish with a central floral spray, a dish with a dense multi-coloured floral chintz-style pattern, a scalloped dish with gilded rim and floral sprays, a blue-ground leaf-shaped dish, and a small scalloped white-ground dish with pink floral sprigs. No makers‘ names are legible on the surfaces shown.
