Lot 480:
Description
An assortment of five wooden walking sticks and canes of varying styles and construction. The collection includes a reddish-brown stained wood cane featuring a crook handle and a shaft with natural nodes, terminating in a black rubber ferrule. A natural wood walking stick is fashioned with a burl-knob handle, featuring a white cord loop through a bored hole, and a light-wood shaft that retains its original bark, fitted with a black rubber ferrule. A third cane presents a cast brass figural handle in the shape of a bird head, resembling a duck or goose, mounted on a black lacquered wooden shaft with a black rubber ferrule. Also included is a light-wood stick with a Derby handle and a shaft carved with prominent nodes to simulate bamboo, finished with a black rubber ferrule. The final item is a souvenir-style hiking stick with a light-wood crook handle. The shaft is heavily decorated with numerous small, shield-shaped metal badges and enamelled plaques representing various landmarks and locations. The inscriptions on these badges are not clearly legible at this scale. This stick terminates in a metal spike ferrule.
