A hand-carved oval dark wood trinket box
Description
A dark wood trinket or snuff box of oval form with a hinged lid. The exterior surfaces are decorated throughout with chip-carving. The lid features a central circular medallion containing a stylized geometric quatrefoil design, surrounded by a border of recessed diamond-patterned carving. The vertical sides of the box are ornamented with a repeating horizontal band of stylized floral or foliate motifs. The interior is finished with a dark stain that partially obscures the natural wood grain. The lid is secured to the base by two small brass butt hinges, each fixed with four metal screws. A recessed lip around the interior rim of the base allows for a flush closure of the lid. No maker’s marks, signatures, or country-of-origin stamps are visible on the exterior or interior surfaces.
