Description

A large woven tapestry depicting the classical mythological narrative of ‘Perseus with the Head of Medusa’. The tapestry is identified by an accompanying plaque as a copy of an original Brussels tapestry, crafted in the early 18th century between 1718-1724, establishing its style as Baroque. The central scene is set within an idyllic landscape featuring classical architecture, lush trees, and additional figures. It is framed by an elaborate border adorned with intricate floral and foliate designs, urns, and putti. The material is woven textile, consistent with wool and/or silk, aligning with the characteristics of French Aubusson-type tapestries of the period.
