Lot 373:
Description
A French Louis XV style inlaid dressing table, also functional as a small desk, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. Constructed from a dark polished hardwood, likely mahogany or rosewood, the piece features a serpentine front and drop-leaf sides. It stands on four slender, tapering legs. The entire surface is extensively decorated with fine marquetry in lighter woods, depicting floral and foliate motifs. The top surface incorporates a central, dark leather insert and hinges open to reveal internal storage compartments and a small central drawer. Above this, a superstructure holds a main rectangular mirror flanked by two smaller mirrors and two small shelves, all with matching marquetry decoration. Below the main surface, a single drawer with a brass key escutcheon and knob continues the marquetry decoration. A white numbered tag, ‘523’, is affixed to the drawer.
Condition report:
General wear commensurate with age. Significant deterioration and cracking of the central leather top insert. Surface scratches and scuffs are present throughout. The finish is somewhat dulled. Minor losses to marquetry may be present.
