Description
A pair of items consisting of a British military issue Pattern bayonet and its associated scabbard. The bayonet features a long, straight steel blade with a central fuller, dark metal crossguard and pommel, and dark wooden grip scales secured by two rivets. The ricasso is stamped with extensive military proof and inspection marks. One side of the ricasso features a British Crown over the cypher E.R. 1905 with the date 10 ’03 stamped below. The reverse side features the manufacturer’s name ANDERSON SHEFFIELD, the War Department broad arrow (W^D), an X bend proof mark, and the date 42, indicating a likely refurbishment or re-issue date. A piece of light-colored twine is tied through the pommel’s lanyard hole. The accompanying scabbard is dark-colored, appearing to be leather or coated metal.
