Description
A wall mounted magazine or newspaper box in the Dutch Revival style, featuring a frame clad in embossed brass panels over a dark finished interior. The front panel is decorated in relief with a tavern or domestic genre scene depicting several figures in period dress gathered around a table in a rustic interior. The box is divided into two compartments by a central partition topped with a small, scrolling brass handle. The side panels feature repeating embossed decorative patterns. No maker marks or signatures are visible.
Condition report:
The piece exhibits an aged patina with scattered surface wear, minor dents, and visible areas of green verdigris oxidation along the seams and hinges. The interior shows white spotting and accumulated dust.
