Description
A circular English dial wall clock of the type traditionally used in schools, railway stations, and public offices. The clock is housed in a turned wooden case, likely mahogany or stained fruitwood, featuring a hinged wooden bezel with a top-mounted brass hinge and a simple latch at the base. The white-painted circular dial is marked with black Roman numerals and a peripheral minute track with triangular hour markers, fitted with black-finished steel spade hands. There are no winding holes present on the dial face, indicating that the clock may have originally functioned as an electric slave clock or has been subsequently converted to a modern quartz movement. The dial is currently incorrectly oriented within the case, with the numeral III positioned at the top. This style of clock was a ubiquitous feature of British public infrastructure during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with similar examples produced by makers such as Magneta or Gent’s of Leicester.
