GENERAL AUCTION - VINTAGE & RETRO
Lot 675:
Description
A late 19th-century Victorian architectural mantel clock. The case is constructed from black slate, accented with inset panels of reddish-brown mottled marble to the front and sides. It features a circular white enamel dial with black Roman numeral hour markers, twin winding holes, and Breguet-style hands, housed behind a hinged gilt-metal bezel with a glass cover. The rear of the clock features a circular brass fretwork door with a fabric-backed floral design, which opens to reveal a twin-train mechanical movement with a balance wheel escapement and a small bell for striking. The style and construction are characteristic of late 19th-century French movements housed in cases for the British market. No maker’s name is visible on the dial, and the markings on the movement backplate are not clearly legible in the provided images.
