Description
A collection of five circular fine bone china presentation plates, produced by Coalport. Each plate features a scalloped, gilded edge and a wide rim decorated with a white-on-white raised relief pattern of holly leaves and berries. The centre of each plate contains a polychrome transfer-printed scene depicting traditional nineteenth-century winter activities, enclosed within a brown scrollwork border. The collection includes the following annual editions: a 1977 plate depicting children and adults ice skating on a pond; a 1978 plate titled ALAS! POOR BRUIN showing a snowy street scene with dogs; a 1982 plate titled SNAP DRAGON featuring a family gathered around a flaming bowl; a 1983 plate titled TRAFALGAR SQUARE showing Nelson’s Column in winter; and a 1990 plate titled A Christmas Blockade depicting children playing with snowballs at an ornate gate. The plates are housed in their original fitted card presentation boxes with satin-lined interiors in shades of blue, green, purple, and turquoise. The lids of the boxes feature a printed gold mark with a crown device above the text COALPORT and FINE BONE CHINA. The front face of each plate bears gilded text indicating the year and, for later editions, the title of the scene.
