November Toys & Vintage Auction
Lot 487:
Description
A group of decorative wooden containers featuring varied carving and inlay techniques. The collection includes two circular turned wood boxes; one lid is decorated with a floral relief carving and a small metal ring pull, while the other features a geometric arrangement of circular mother-of-pearl or bone inlays. Also present is a rectangular box with a hinged lid, worked with dense foliate and scrollwork carving and featuring two circular white inlays to the front panel. Completing the lot is a long, narrow utility box with a sliding lid, the interior fitted with three compartments of varying sizes. The construction across the pieces demonstrates traditional hand-carving methods, with some examples exhibiting visible metal hinges and pin fastenings. No maker’s marks, signatures, or labels are visible on the interior or exterior surfaces of any item in the lot.
