Description
An oil painting by Philips Koninck (Dutch, 1619-1688), depicting a panoramic landscape with a broad vista of rolling hills, a large body of water, distant settlements, and figures on a path in the foreground, all beneath a cloudy sky. The work is presented in an ornate, carved gold-leafed frame. A plaque affixed to the lower frame identifies the work as « View from the Ramparts of a Town » by « Van der Haagen, » noting its provenance from « The Wernher Collection » and its source from the « English Heritage photo library. » However, market consensus and visual comparisons from web intelligence strongly indicate the work to be by Philips Koninck.
