Lot 2084:
Description
A late 19th-century monochromatic print, depicting ‘The Bounds-Park Oak’ after Jacob George Strutt. The print, dated 1888, prominently features a large, mature oak tree centered within a park landscape, with a building visible to the left and a treeline in the distance. Executed in a style suggestive of an etching or engraving, it exhibits detailed fine lines and cross-hatching. It is signed ‘T. C. S. [partially illegible surname]’ and dated ‘1888’ in the lower left margin, and titled ‘The Bounds-Park Oak’ in script below the central image. The print is presented on toned paper, matted in white, and housed under glass within a substantial, gilded wooden frame.
Condition report:
The print is in good condition for its age, exhibiting minor paper toning consistent with time. The frame shows commensurate wear, including minor abrasions and loss to the gilding.
