Lot 268:
Description
A reproduction of Vasily Tropinin’s 1827 portrait of Alexander Pushkin. This framed oil portrait depicts the renowned Russian poet Alexander Pushkin as a young man with dark, curly hair and sideburns, dressed in a high-collared white shirt and a dark, loose-fitting cloak, leaning on a surface. The subject’s attire and the Romantic aesthetic are characteristic of 19th-century European style. The artwork is executed in oil on canvas and housed within a substantial, ornate giltwood frame. A white label affixed to the bottom right of the frame reads « Pre-auction » and « LOT 262 ».
Condition report:
The painting is in good overall condition, exhibiting clear details and vibrant colors. The canvas appears stable with no visible tears or significant paint loss. The ornate giltwood frame shows minor wear consistent with age, including light surface abrasions and small losses to the gilt finish, particularly along the edges and corners.
