Lot 380:
Description
An 18th-century architectural drawing, rendered in ink and graphite on aged paper, depicting the « South East front of Latley Castle. » The inscription in the upper left identifies it as a « Design for an [illegible word, possibly ‘improvement’ or ‘addition’] one of the Seats of The Earl of Bute. » A faint date, « 28th May 1782, » is discernible in the lower left. The drawing features a castellated building in a Neoclassical or Gothic Revival style. The work is matted and presented in a decorative giltwood frame under glass. A modern « BidAuction LOT080 » sticker is affixed to the lower right of the frame.
Condition report:
The paper exhibits overall age-appropriate toning, minor foxing, and some localized discoloration consistent with its presumed late 18th-century origin. The giltwood frame is in good condition with minor wear consistent with age and handling. Presented under glass.
