November Toys & Vintage Auction
Lot 396:
Description
A collection of eleven pieces of unglazed stoneware jasperware featuring applied white bas-relief decoration on a pale blue ground. The items comprise a series of annual Christmas plates, heart-shaped pin dishes, and a commemorative piece. The annual Christmas plates feature central motifs of British architectural landmarks within oak leaf and acorn borders. Visible years on the larger plates include 1972 depicting St Pauls Cathedral, 1973 showing Tower Bridge, 1974 featuring the Houses of Parliament, and 1980 showing Windsor Castle. A smaller plate is dated 1971 and depicts Piccadilly Circus. Three heart-shaped pin dishes feature applied relief motifs of a crown, a lion, and a classical figure. A small round dish is presented in its original textured card box and features a central Portland Vase emblem. The relief characters WEDGWOOD and 1759 – 1959 are visible in a circular arrangement surrounding the central emblem on this boxed dish. The card box has a white printed border and textured blue finish. As the undersides of the remaining items are not visible in the provided photographs, base marks for those pieces cannot be confirmed. No rulers, scales, or measuring tapes are present in the images.
