November Toys & Vintage Auction
Lot 494:
Description
A collection of six metalware items consisting of five tankards and one small lidded pot, all constructed from pewter. The tankards are of varying sizes, featuring traditional forms including straight-sided and tulip-shaped bodies with flared or stepped bases. One tankard displays a dark, heavily oxidised patina and is fitted with a double-scroll C-handle and horizontal banding around the body. The remaining four tankards exhibit a brighter, brushed or polished finish characteristic of 20th-century production. The small cylindrical vessel features a hinged flat lid with a small notch at the rim, likely intended as a condiment or mustard pot. Several pieces bear impressed marks on the underside of the bases (photo 3). These marks include circular and rectangular stamps containing symbols and text; however, the characters are not sufficiently legible to identify a specific maker or manufacturer.
