Description
A pair of vintage decorative bookends, each featuring a small terrestrial globe supported by a black, likely wooden or composite, upright and base. The globes display an old-world map style with images of sailing ships and geographical names primarily in Latin and English, including “OCEANUS ATLANTICUS, ” “MAR PACIFIC, ” “AMERICA MERIDIONALIS, ” “AMERICA SEPTENTRIONALIS, ” and “CIRCULUS ANTARCTICUS.” Each globe is encircled by a black ring with an orange inner band and numbering from 0 to 90 degrees, suggesting a navigational or astronomical scale, and pivots on brass-toned metal pins.
