Description
A French Rococo Revival bonheur-du-jour, crafted from dark, possibly veneered, wood, likely rosewood or mahogany. The desk features extensive light-wood marquetry depicting classical urns, floral sprays, garlands, and ribbon motifs across its surfaces. It stands on elegant cabriole legs, which, along with the corners and hardware, are embellished with ornate gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts. The slant-front opens to reveal an interior fitted with compartments and a purple leather writing surface detailed with gilt tooling. The superstructure includes a central mirror flanked by two small glazed cabinets, each decorated with floral marquetry and secured with ornate key escutcheons, all topped by a delicate pierced gallery. No discernible maker’s marks or textual inscriptions are visible.
Dimensions: Approximately 140 cm high, 80 cm wide.
