Lot 2027:
Description
A Louis XV style fireplace ensemble, featuring a veined reddish-brown and grey marble surround. The ornate cast iron firebox interior is detailed with scrolled and shell motifs. The hearth is paved with multi-toned stone slabs. A brass fender with a central decorative element of scrolls and a shell motif extends across the front. The ensemble includes two sets of fireplace tools: one set of silver-toned metal with refined handles on a matching stand, and another set of darker metal, likely wrought iron, with twisted and curled handles.
Condition report:
The marble surround shows minor surface wear. The cast iron firebox exhibits soot and use consistent with its function. The hearth is paved with multi-toned stone slabs, presenting visible cracks and wear. The brass fender is tarnished and shows an aged patina, but appears structurally sound. Fireplace tools show use consistent with age.
