Lot 2039:
Description
A late 19th to early 20th-century French Neoclassical Revival mantel clock, primarily constructed from variegated brown, pink, and cream-banded onyx marble, with extensive ornate gilt bronze mounts. The rectangular clock body features a central white enamel dial with black Arabic hour and minute numerals. The dial includes two subsidiary dials, one marked “S-F” and “A-R” (indicating Avance-Retard for rate adjustment). The dial is flanked by caryatid-like gilt bronze figures. The clock sits on a stepped rectangular onyx base, supported by four scrolled gilt bronze feet, and is surmounted by an urn-form onyx finial within gilt bronze supports.
Condition report:
Fair to good antique condition. The gilt bronze mounts exhibit an age-appropriate patina and some minor surface wear consistent with age and handling. The onyx marble body and base appear largely intact with no obvious major chips or cracks. The enamel dial is clean with no visible hairlines or chips. Functionality of the movement is untested and not guaranteed.
