Description
An 18th Century Engraved Armorial Bookplate for Lancelot Brown. This black and white print features a central coat of arms with a quartered shield, chevron, and bird-like charges, surmounted by a crested, winged, or plumed creature, all set within an elaborate foliate surround. A banner beneath the shield bears the Latin motto “ERRO QUAM MINUS SOLUS QUAM CUM SOLTS,” which translates to “I err less alone than with soles/companions,” noting the unusual spelling of “SOLTS.” The name “Lancelot Brown” is inscribed below the motto in a decorative script. The print is presented within a white mat and housed in a gold-toned, fluted wooden frame with a beaded inner edge, under glass.
Condition report:
The print, mat, and frame appear to be in good condition with no visible damage. Glare from external lighting is present on the glass surface, which does not affect the item\'s condition.
