Lot 350:
Description
A Neoclassical architectural drawing depicting a detailed ceiling design, attributed to Robert Adam (Scottish, 1728-1792), dated 1785. The design features symmetrical classical motifs, characteristic of Adam’s Neoclassical style. Handwritten inscriptions at the bottom include “Ceiling of the Saloon – Mr. Adam” centrally, and “R. Adam Inv. 1785” to the left, suggesting the design was invented by Robert Adam in 1785. The artwork is executed in ink and likely wash on paper. It is presented in a gold-colored, likely gilt-wood, frame under glass. A small blue label on the frame’s bottom right reads “GLIMMER / REF 35 / FRAME”.
Condition report:
The drawing appears to be in good overall condition, with some age-related toning evident on the paper consistent with its age. The frame shows minor wear.
