Luton Hoo - Bedrooms
Lot 581:
Description
A cohesive collection of hotel room furnishings, primarily in a late 19th to early 20th-century revival style, crafted from mahogany or similar richly toned hardwoods, often with visible grain or veneer panels. The lot comprises a substantial wooden bed headboard with figured veneer, surmounted by a fabric half-tester canopy featuring a floral chintz pattern with tassel trim. Flanking the bed are two small wooden bedside tables, each supporting a brass-toned table lamp with a pleated fabric shade. Seating includes a deep red upholstered two-seater sofa, a matching armchair, and a small upholstered bench. A rectangular glass-topped coffee table is also present. Additional wooden furniture pieces consist of a five-drawer chest with brass-toned pull handles, a writing desk featuring a glass top insert and multiple drawers, and a matching side chair with a woven red seat and twisted back supports. Wall decor includes a framed print, partially legible as “The Tennis Court,” and a rectangular wooden-framed mirror. The window treatments, consisting of drapes and a valance, echo the bed canopy’s floral chintz design. A modern “Toshiba Regza HD Ready” television is present in the room but is not included in this lot.
Condition report:
Overall condition appears consistent with a well-maintained, traditional hotel aesthetic. Wooden furniture items exhibit minor surface wear, scratches, and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Upholstery on the sofa, armchair, and bench shows light wear but no significant tears or fading observed. The fabric canopy, drapes, and valance appear generally good, with some minor dust accumulation. The mattress exhibits prominent discolored staining and would require replacement. Lamps are present and appear functional, with shades showing minor creasing. The framed print and mirror are in generally good condition.
