Description
A pair of hand-coloured aquatints on paper depicting traditional British fox hunting scenes from the series titled Fores’s Hunting Accomplishments. Plate 2 is titled Topping a Flight of Rails and coming well into the next Field, featuring a rider in a red hunting coat on a dark horse clearing a timber fence with hounds in the foreground. Plate 3 is titled Swishing a Rasper and depicts a rider on a dappled grey horse navigating a large hedge and ditch. Both works are produced after drawings by Henry Alken and engraved by John Harris. The prints are presented in matching contemporary black-finished wooden frames with gilded inner beading and cream window mounts.
Several printed inscriptions are visible on each sheet. The top of the images bear the series title and plate number as FORES’S HUNTING ACCOMPLISHMENTS. PL. 2. and FORES’S HUNTING ACCOMPLISHMENTS. PL. 3. The lower margins are inscribed bottom left Drawn by H. Alken, bottom right Engraved by J. Harris, and bottom centre London, Published Novr. 1st 1850, by Messrs. Fores, 41, Piccadilly. The individual titles are printed in the centre of the lower margins. The plate marks are partially obscured by the window mounts.
