Description
This lot comprises two white ceramic pieces produced to mark British royal events. The first item is a cylindrical mug commemorating the millennium of the monarchy (973 to 1973). It features a gilt rim and red transfer-printed text including The British Monarchy, 1000 years, King Edgar AD 973, and Queen Elizabeth II AD 1973. A central blue medallion depicts the obverse of a silver penny of King Edgar with the legend EADGAR REX. The second item is a commemorative plate or saucer for the 1977 Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. It is designed with a scalloped, relief-moulded rim and a central heraldic shield containing the ER cypher. The inscriptions read SILVER JUBILEE 1977 and QUEEN ELIZABETH II, surrounded by red and gold-tone scrollwork decoration. No maker’s marks are visible in the provided images.
