GENERAL AUCTION - VINTAGE & RETRO
Lot 419:
Description
A trio of music-themed wall tapestries or rugs, manufactured from a synthetic velvet-textured fabric with a brushed finish. These items are characteristic of kitsch decorative memorabilia from the late 20th century. The collection includes two Elvis Presley pieces and one Madonna piece. The first Elvis Presley tapestry is portrait-oriented, depicting the artist in a white jewelled jumpsuit with a red flower lei, holding a microphone. This imagery is attributed to the 1973 Aloha from Hawaii concert. The image is framed by a decorative border of recurring eagle and shield motifs in a red, white, and blue colour palette, finished with a red fringe. The second Elvis Presley tapestry is landscape-oriented and presents a close-up portrait of the artist wearing a black shirt and red neckerchief against a red background with circular light effects. It shares the same eagle and shield border and features a red fringe on one side. The Madonna tapestry is landscape-oriented and captures the artist’s 1980s aesthetic with permed blonde hair and a black outfit with a prominent belt. This image is framed by a black border decorated with multi-coloured stars and stylised flowers, featuring a green-bound edge and a mixed red and black fringe.
